This essay is not written in my official work capacity. I write this as a survivor and as a lawyer who is desperate for systems that respond to the needs of survivors, a system that gives justice as defined by survivors. I am grateful for every person I have worked with in this movement dedicated to improving the response to sexual violence, especially my fierce colleagues at the Victim Rights Law Center, who inspire me and other survivors with their brilliance and deeply compassionate lawyering.

STACY MALONE, ESQ. is the executive director of the Victim Rights Law Center, the first nonprofit law center in the country solely focused on the legal needs of sexual assault survivors. Stacy joined as a volunteer attorney in 2004 and was appointed executive director in 2010. She manages the organization’s strategic direction and oversees the national programming and the offices in Massachusetts and Oregon. Stacy graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Boston University School of Law.
